Lady, You Need to Have an Agenda for Yourself

By Shawnna Jocelyn

For years, I dedicated my life to my family, my child, and making sure everyone else was taken care of. And don’t get me wrong—I loved it. I loved being there for them, supporting them, and ensuring they had what they needed. But one day, I realized something was missing—I wasn’t in my own agenda. I had spent so much time making sure everyone else was good that I had forgotten to make space for myself. It was time for a change. I needed an agenda that included me too.

Here are five things that every woman must focus on to ensure she has an agenda for her life:

1. Prioritize Your Personal Growth

Your personal development should never take a backseat. Whether it’s reading more, learning a new skill, going back to school, or just working on being a better version of yourself, make sure you are constantly growing. When I started investing in myself—mentally, emotionally, and spiritually—I saw a shift in my confidence and purpose.

2. Take Care of Your Health and Well-being

You can’t pour from an empty cup. I used to put off doctor’s appointments, neglect exercise, and ignore my own well-being because I was “too busy.” But I learned that my health had to be a priority. Eating well, staying active, and taking time to rest are non-negotiables. When you take care of yourself, you show up better in every other area of your life.

3. Establish Financial Independence

Having control over your finances is powerful. Whether you’re married or single, financial independence gives you choices and peace of mind. Budget, save, invest, and make sure you have your own financial goals. Don’t leave your future in someone else’s hands—make sure you have a plan for your money.

4. Pursue Your Passions and Purpose

What brings you joy? What sets your soul on fire? Too often, women put their passions on hold because life gets in the way. But pursuing what you love isn’t selfish—it’s necessary. Whether it’s a business idea, a hobby, or a dream you’ve had for years, make time for it. Your purpose matters, and the world needs what you have to offer.

5. Set Boundaries and Protect Your Peace

I used to say “yes” to everything—every request, every favor, every obligation—until I was exhausted and resentful. But I had to learn the power of no. Setting boundaries doesn’t make you selfish; it makes you wise. Protect your time, your energy, and your peace. Surround yourself with people who uplift you and let go of those who drain you.

Final Thoughts

Ladies, it’s time to put yourself in your own agenda. Your life is just as valuable as those you care for. Having an agenda for yourself doesn’t mean neglecting your responsibilities—it means making sure you are included in the vision for your own life. You matter. Your dreams matter. Your well-being matters. So start today—write yourself into your own story and live with intention!
